Photo 27 Jan I hate to say it, but this doesn’t surprise me. Twitter said it was entering “countries that have different ideas about the contours of freedom of expression”. It was really just a matter of time before certain countries would put stipulations of use on Twitter. Take Google for instance. They even have what they term a “Transparency Report”, which looks like a PR move to diplomatically, and in politically correct verbiage, report on the items censored in various countries. In my opinion this just means that Twitter has “hit the big time” worldwide. In my opinion, the countries asking for censorship now feel to protect their political paradigm they have to ask for Twitter’s cooperation.

A change in policy: Twitter announced Thursday that it would begin restricting Tweets in certain countries, marking a policy shift for the social media platform that helped propel the popular uprisings recently sweeping across the Middle East.
 
“Starting today, we give ourselves the ability  to reactively withhold content from users in a specific country while  keeping it available in the rest of the world,” the Twitter blog said.
